The Plumber and the Wishing Well
By Liam Maher
THE PLUMBER AND THE WISHING WELL is a heartwarming story, sure to delight the young-at-heart in all of us, especially children. The plumber lost his job, and the hard luck story touches upon a nerve for many that might have fallen on hard times. Losing your job at Christmas is especially difficult, and the plumber worries that he won’t be able to buy gifts for his children.
The plumber’s friend, a bird that he invited to stay in his snug, warm, home for the winter, decides to try and help. The bird learns of a secret wishing well from a wise owl that lives in the woods. The little people that own the well are upset because their Christmas wishes would not be granted. The bird advises that they needed a good plumber to fix it.
This seems like a good solution since the plumber might fix the well, and the little people would gladly pay him for his services. He would then have enough money to buy his children presents. The little people are certain to be happy, and everyone would have a wonderful Christmas.
The gifted author, Liam Maher, applied creative imagination when bringing the true spirit of Christmas to life. He skillfully crafted colorful, lively, story details and characters. The little people sometimes got just the opposite of what they wished for. As the story unfolds, you will find humor and magic mixed in with the many surprises.
The illustrations by artist, Gin May, are magnificent, and add a special charm to the story. Before even opening the book and taking a peek inside, the cover gives one a sense of Christmas warmth and cheer.
THE PLUMBER AND THE WISHING WELL by Liam Maher brings home the true meaning of Christmas. The wonderful book is highly recommended by this reviewer.
