It is 1970, and the United States is still deeply bogged down in the quagmire known as Vietnam.

Greg Taylor, a rural bred Pennsylvanian, finds himself becoming yet another cog in the massive military machine known as the US Army.

My novel follows him from the dehumanizing nine weeks of basic training, through his six month stint as a Military Policeman at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland, and then to his ten plus month tour of duty in Vietnam and ends when he first visits the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C., in 1985.

He has several hair-raising adventures at APG, before he receives his orders for Vietnam, and once he is there, in a relatively secure area, finds that the war can claim victims anywhere in the country, even in so called safe areas.

After one near-death experience, he meets a young army nurse, one that he had a crush on several years before, and though fraternization between officers and enlisted personnel is strictly taboo, they find a way to continue their love affair and look forward to the day they will be back in the states as man and wife.

This novel gives the reader an overview of the Military Police mission, and also shows the frustrations shared by the men and women who served there.

It's 1969, and Greg Taylor has been drafted for service in Vietnam. At two hundred and fifty-five pounds, boot camp is rough going. Even worse, his fiancйe is becoming distant, unsure if she wants to risk her future on a man who may be dead within two years. Greg makes his way through boot camp, military police training, and then service, both domestic and abroad. As Greg thins down and grows up, his personal fears shift their focus. Death and disability are not all he has to fear. His good friends are also at risk, including the woman he has come to love. If he loses them, will he ever be whole again?

95 Bravo is filled with anecdotes large and small, and laden with detail. Many of the small incidents are interesting or entertaining. The book feels crowded with detail and random events, rather than building towards a plot. Of course, the same can be said of life itself. Overall, the story marches along well, and is lightened by the occasional wry comment.

95 Bravo is one great read! It's a roller coaster ride of thrills, chills, romance, heartache, laughter and love. It's a 5 star literary meal cooked by a master chef. Larry Deibert shows a deft hand for a first time author. Even if you don't think you'll like a military themed book you owe it to yourself to at least read the except. From the first part of the excerpt that reads

' "Get the f*** off the bus!" the sergeant wearing a Smoky Bear hat screamed. "The last one of you f****** off the bus is going to be sorry you was even born."

I, and thirty-five other scared recruits, stumbled, gouged, kicked and clawed our way off the bus and spilled onto the parking lot. Two more sergeants were screaming at us, "Fall in! "Get to attention!" "Wipe that smile off your face!" "Are you eyeballing me?" '

You're caught in a story that's constructed as fine as a spider's web. You feel as though you know and like Greg Taylor. You care about what happens to him and can't wait to turn the next page. And for those of you that do like military themed books, this belongs in the same class as "The Short-Timers", "Dispatchs", and "The Red Badge of Courage". You owe it to yourself to experience this!
