Featured Author: James G. Patterson, Writer (Worldwide Quality Standard, Benchmarking Basics, How to be a Better Negotiator, How to Improve Workp Mr. Keyes has written an important guide to effective, clear writing for both technical and non-technical professionals. Many professionals simply don't understand that it's okay to write clearly and to the point. Mr. Keyes has given us all permission.
Featured Author: Reprinted from International Mensa (Ed: Therese Moodie-Bloom) in Mensa Bulletin (April 1998) by Kate Nacard, Assistant Editor, I Professional Writing (Scientific, Military, Business, Technical etc) for Writers and Editors gives us a "plain English" way of expressing ourselves. Although the euphemisms "ecdysiast" (a stripper), "very, very physically challenged" (dead) and "cranium foliage displacement" (scalping) appear, they are used only as examples of what not to write in the interests of clarity of expression. And is it likely that Romeo would have whispered to Juliet, "I want to make habitation with you"? I'm tempted to write here, "not on your Nellie!" but having read the chapter on Cliches and Doubleheaders, which cautions the writer against misusing and overusing clichés, I won't.
There are practice exercises (with solutions) throughout the book, along with sections on jargon, foreign expressions and endings, editing techniques and packaging your document. There's also a large section dealing with common words that are commonly confused and another on advice to CEOs for improving writers in their organizations.
Always clear, very readable and often humorous, Frank's book is a valuable resource for all writers. In the words of noted author James G. Patterson, "Many professionals simply don't understand that it's OK to write clearly and to the point. Mr. Keyes has given us all permission."
