Featured Author: Michelle Pitman for Busy Parents Online (http://www.busyparentsonline.com/storytime/reviews/20037_la- dygeyr.htm) Fantasy literature for children owes a great debt to the likes of C. S. Lewis, J. R. R. Tolkien and J. K. Rowling. Someday, we may also add Janean Nusz to this illustrious list of creative giants.
Ms. Nusz's new e-book for children, for the upper primary reading level, is a fast-paced and interesting account of the Lady Cailin and her protector Ardinus, a winged gargoyle pledged to protect her family. Together, they do battle over the evil of the Red Knight and his murderous plans for dominion over Geyr Castle.
The story starts in the "middle" and doesn't try to talk down to children by assuming they need all the background facts up front. Good readers will grasp this background information in the narrative and will be left wanting more! In fact, this is the one downside to the story; the action and the drama are so intense and beguiling that the mere 20 pages of beautifully illustrated story are just not long enough. The action finishes just a little too quickly for my taste, and I was left with the feeling that I'd just had the only chocolate left in the box and there were no more to come. Nevertheless, it was a delicious "chocolate" and worth the tasting!
The illustrations are dark, mysterious and where there is colour, it leaps off the page at you like a psychedelic kaleidoscope that hits one straight between the eyes. The drawings are clean and simple but at the same time they convey the purpose of the narrative with its complex themes and somewhat violent action. Gin May is to be congratulated for her inspired translation of the story.
I will close this review with a short comment by my ten-year-old daughter, Eleni, who also read the story and offered me her opinion.
"I liked this story a lot. It has characters that were easy to follow, and a good story line. It was a bit short, and it could have had a bit more detail and length as it only took me ten minutes to read. On the other hand, it is well-written and is easy to understand. Age group eight to twelve. Rating four stars out of five." -- Eleni Pitman, age 10

Ardinus, the gargoyle guardian of her family, rescues young Lady Cailin, the future Duchess of Geyr, from the Red Knights of Castle Bailey on rainy night. Lady Cailin must rescue her sister, Dariana, from the Red Knight, but needs help. With no parents to turn to, and since the gargoyles can only move during the nighttime hours, her attempts of rescue must wait until dark.
After a while, Ardinus had talked her into finding a hiding place in the forest after introducing her to his gargoyle helpers. All she can do is sit and wait. Will the gargoyle guardian's keep their promise to avenge the death of her parent's? Is Lady Cailin able to save her sister Dariana? What will happen to Geyr Castle?

LADY GEYR is a fantastic book. Our fascination with gargoyles is what drew me to the book in the first place. Now that I've read it, I am enthralled. The illustrations along with the magical wording will enchant children and inspire them as they read. My children loved it, and we look forward to new books written by this talented author.
More books Ms. Nusz has with Writers-Exchange include: MOONLIGHT MEDALLION, THE LITTLEST COWBOY, GRYPHON'S GOLD, and LILLY LOLLER'S ALWAYS LATE
