Featured Author: Anne K. Edwards The past becomes the present in this fun read, with lots of atmosphere and weird background characters to match. Something different than the ordinary werewolf tale by a talented author with an original twist of the imagination.
The murder of a young man in 1919 who was called a werewolf becomes the focus of Gretchen Lauterbach's visit to Brevard, France, located in the Morvan Mountains where tales of dark beings flourish, especially that of the werewolf. This visit is at her grandmother's request, the purpose to rejoin the head to the body of the murdered man.
And Zachary Tate's purpose for visiting Brevard is to deliver a very special coat to a collector of artifacts with a dark past. Much to his dismay, he begins to doubt whether he should have agreed to this particular sale.
The cross purposes and jealousies of the characters in this tale will keep you reading as things begin to happen and superstitions feed upon the bleak atmosphere of the Morvan Mountains. Do werewolves exist? Only the werewolves
know for sure and they aren't talking, but if they do, is one wandering the streets of Brevard after dark?
Recommended reading for the lover of mystery or light horror. A tale that will have you making sure those windows are latched tight before you go to bed. Enjoy. I did.
Featured Author: Bitten by Books (http://bittenbybooks.com/?p=208) Beneath The Morvan Moon is by far, the longest e-book I’ve read to date, but definitely well worth the time. If you like your books to have mystery, superstition, intrigue and a bit of back stabbing, then this is a book for you!
After a combined birthday party for her and her grandmother, twenty-nine year old Gretchen Lauterbach is stunned by a request that Grams makes. Eighty years ago when Grams was a young woman in a small French village, her fiancé, Mathieu, was murdered for supposedly being a werewolf and killing men from the village. Not only did she witness the execution, but Gram’s parents, sister and her sister’s fiancé were involved. To prevent Mathieu from coming back to life, his head and body were buried separately. Gram asks Gretchen to go to France, find both of Mathieu’s graves and make sure his head and body are together again in a single grave. As weeks pass, Gretchen has yet to make up her mind about Gram’s request. It’s only the death of her estranged older sister, Rachel, that prompts Gretchen to take the trip.
During her visit to the tiny village of Brevard, France, Gretchen meets quite the cast of characters. From Cosette St. Cyr and her daughter Rosemarie, the owners of the inn; Pascal Dumelle, owner of a junk shop and also Cosette’s brother; to Severin LeNoir and his grandmother Meme who run the town café. Everyone seems polite enough, but there is something about them that has Gretchen on edge. They talk of old legends about wolves and new rumors that there is a wolf in the area. They also seem a bit secretive with the exception of Rosemarie, who is just downright rude and almost hostile.
She also meets a fellow American, Zachary Tate, who is in town for business with Pascal. Zach is a dealer/acquisitions specialist of rare and cursed artifacts. While he’s done a thorough background check on Pascal, he still feels as though he’s missing something. The artifact he has found for Pascal is a cloak made of a single wolf skin and it is said to transform the wearer into a type of werewolf. Pascal claims he only wants it for his private collection but Zach isn’t so sure. As Gretchen attempts to fulfill her promise to Grams, the mystery of who is actually after the cloak unravels in a frightening and bloody way. While you may think you know the intent of these characters, you may have to rethink your opinions at the end.
I really enjoyed this book and wouldn’t mind seeing this turned into a series. Some of the characters really grew on me and I am interested in hearing more about them. I thought that I had the ending all figured out, but there were enough twists and turns to throw me, and I like that about a book. I mentioned that this was the longest e-book I have read, but it went quick. The scenes are well written, and before you know it it’s one in the morning and you’re glued to your screen! It’s not a typical werewolf book and I think it will appeal to just about any paranormal fan.
