Russell Williams is a hard-drinking, unemployed computer analyst with no family and no prospects. But Williams has one thing going for him - his genotype. At the Trade Winds Lounge in scenic Daytona Beach, Florida, a stranger plants the notion in Williams' head that the key to all his problems is in his blood. Williams has no idea that he is being maneuvered by a group of power brokers who seek to toss him into the judicial ring to establish behavioral genetics as the newest, lucrative legal defense strategy of the decade.

But when Williams is forced through an intersection during a high-speed chase that results in the death of several vacationers, he is charged with three counts of DUI Manslaughter. A firm of ambitious lawyers, and their unprecedented Genetics Defense, seems to be Williams' only hope of escaping death row. Only veteran homicide detective Ezra "Cane" McCoy suspects that there's more to the case than a DUI.

Bitter Tree by Frank Altobelli (Mystery/Thriller) Bitter Tree by Frank Altobelli (Mystery/Thriller)

Eleanor knew the mystery hidden under the desert sands; one of the Bible's most intriguing stories was not the miracle that would bring clean safe water to the world's thirsty poor as Rene believed. She knew it was instead, a weapon that could humble the world's industrial powers and they would kill to keep it hidden.

Reviews/Opinions

Featured Author: Michael Hobren
"The Gauntlet" is a cautionary tale of a change in our society, in our daily lives, that will soon be upon us. It is more than action, intrique, mystery and even espionage. It is all those things, for those who cherish entertainment in the form of a "good read." But it is also an "Orwellian-like" look at the shape of things to soon come. A story that poses the questions of what determines our behavior, and why we do the things that we do.
