Editorial

Welcome to another edition of Reader's Eden Ezine, bringing you the best in electronic storytelling, along with news and views from the epublishing industry. This month we interview popular fantasy writer K. Fainges, and have the usual short stories. In "Ghost in the Bite", by Matt Hampton, an assassin gets more than he bargained for while working on a hit. Then we're off to India with "Bhakti", a tale of growing and learning by first-time author Dakshina Shenoy. To round it off with some holiday spirit, Noelene Thompson gives us "Thanksgiving", another tale rooted in the family. While editing this issue I was struck by the similarities in theme of these last two stories, despite being from very different cultures. Perhaps we're not so different after all.

If you'd like to contribute, we're always open to submissions. We have new submission guidelines, along with an expanded list of themed issues stretching into next year, available on our community page.

Keep on reading, and keep on writing!

Author Spotlight: Karen Fainges

Karen Fainges is the author of the popular Shaytonian Chronicles, a mixture of fantasy and vampire/paranormal with an added dash of humor and science fiction to make for some surprising results. The tales are the product of storytelling to her sister and cousin, and retain some of that rainy day creativity that artistic-minded families enjoy. The series beings with Destiny Sets, and continues with Tamal's Journeys and The Children of Tamal. All are available from Reader's Eden.

Now this month's short stories:

Ghost in the Bite
by Matt Hampton
Eleventh Day, of the Fifth Month, of the Thirteen-hundred and Fifty-First Year of the New Age.

Something quite odd has happened this evening.

The Roefield account was closed satisfactorily last night. Nothing out of the ordinary, found the targets hiding in the bedroom of their own mansion. Went with requested evidence to collect payment, I even got paid a bonus for immaculate presentation of evidence. Must remember to thank Roberto at the satchel shop for his fine embroidery-used for delivering said evidence-and request another satchel for future presentations. New calling card?

Bhakti
by Dakshina Shenoy

"We felt really awkward when we heard you are close relatives of Bhakti. We hope you do not think we are anything like her ex-husband. When we heard of what he had been doing to Bhakti, all of us were horrified."

What was this weird neighbour talking about, Pooja wondered. Aunt Bhakti once had a creepy husband? What had happened?

One Last Thanksgiving
by Noelene Thompson

Martin pulled the charred turkey from the oven while his two children, five year-old Shelley and three year-old So-So, watched with anxious faces. The smoke detector beeped dementedly in the background.

"Is it ruined, Daddy?" Shelley asked.

"I don't know, Shell."

"The skin's all black," So-So's little face was puckered. Her big brown eyes filled with tears.

Product Review Product Review

Whew! HEART BROKEN, HEART WHOLE leads readers down the path of many different emotions. As a woman, and a mother, I could relate to Amanda's determination to do anything she can to help her daughter. Given a second chance at love, readers will root for Gray and Amanda to overcome the pain and betrayal of their past, as well as the objections of Gray's father. A tender love story that will definitely pull at your heartstrings, I could not put HEART BROKEN, HEART WHOLE down.
